Sacred Heart of Jesus, Thy Kingdom come!

Jesus revealing His Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque ©, 2011.

Happy feast to all!!! Today we celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. “The Sacred Heart of Jesus symbolizes God’s love for us in a humanly concrete and profoundly attractive way,” says the Catholic Encyclopedia (Catholic Encyclopedia 850). The Catholic Dictionary defines the Sacred Heart as “A devotion to Jesus Christ consisting in the divine worship of His heart of flesh considered as united to His divinity and as the symbol of His love for us in dying for our redemption: particularly in reparation for human ingratitude for His goodness and mercy (Catholic Dictionary 442).” This great feast was authorized by the Church in 1765.  Whenever we think of the Sacred Heart, immediately the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque come to mind. However, the roots of this great Catholic Feast go back many centuries. St. Bonaventure, St. Catherine of Siena, and St. Francis de Sales all had great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is our duty to follow in their foot steps and worship our Supreme, Merciful Master on this the Feast of His Sacred Heart.

Please join me in this Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart.

Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thee. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known Thee; many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to thy Sacred Heart. Be King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee; grant that they may return to their Father’s house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger. Be King over those who are deceived by erroneous opinions or whom discord holds aloof, and call them back to the harbor of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd. Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations,  and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: “Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; to It be glory and honor for ever.” Amen!
