Hello everybody, today we celebrate the Queenship of Mary. Instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1954, this feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption. After all, being the Mother of the Christ – the King, would Mary, after being assumed body and soul in to Heaven, not be invited to reign with her Son? In order to make this connection more clear, the Church has put the Feast of the Queenship of Mary one octave (eight days) after the Feast of the Assumption.
Today I had the privilege of serving Mass at the Basilica of Holy Hill. This Mass will always be cherished in my spirit, not only because of the celebration of the Queenship of Mary, rather because Fr. Cyril Guise of the Mother Of God OCD celebrated his Diamond Jubilee of Profession as a Carmelite. It was such a beautiful Mass – particularly when Fr. Cyril renewed his vows. Kneeling in front of Fr. Jude Peters OCD, the Prior of Holy Hill, with his brother Carmelites gathered around him, and in the presence of all in the Basilica, Fr. Cyril pledged poverty, chastity, and obedience in the Order of the Discalced Carmel – just as he had 60 years ago. 6o years ago! wow! In times when some religious are abandoning their vows, Fr. Cyril is an admirable example of the model religious – faithful to Christ for 6o years.
This Mass led me to ponder more deeply my own vocation. As you all know, I am discerning a vocation as a Discalced Carmelite Friar. I couldn’t help but wonder, as I brought out the kneeler for Father, some time in the future, if some little (or in my case tall) altar boy might be dragging one out for me as I prepared to give my life to Christ. I couldn’t help but wonder if, as I listened to Fr. Cyril pledge poverty, chastity and obedience, this was where I was called.
So I ask you to please pray for Fr. Cyril Guise of the Mother Of God OCD – that he will always remain faithful his vocation in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ; and pray for me – that I may know what is God’s will – and faithfully do it! Thank you, and May God Bless You.
Holy Mary – Queen of Heaven and Earth – Pray for Us!
