On this day, O Beautiful Mother.

O Gentlest Mother – Pray For Us © GodAloneSufficeth.com, 2012

Hello everyone! Today is Saturday, the day of the week dedicated to the Blessed Mother. It also happens to be Mother’s Day weekend. This weekend, we pray for and remember our mothers, those gifts from God who nurtured us, taught us and protected us. This weekend we honor that very special person we address as “Mom.” However, we ought not just stop at showing our love for biological mothers. No, we must not stop there.

This Mother’s Day is a perfect time for us to show our gratitude for the vocations all of the nuns, who are our mothers and sisters in the Mystical Body of Christ.  This Mother’s Day is a perfect time for us to show our love for the Holy Mother Church, the Holy Catholic Church. This Mother’s Day is a perfect time for us to show our devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ’s Mother and our mother.

This Mother’s Day is also a perfect time to pray for all expecting mothers, mothers who have miscarried and mothers who have given up their motherhood through abortion.

As He was dying on the Cross, Our Lord gave to us, the very sinners He died to save, a most selfless gift, His last will. He gave us His mother, Mary. “Behold your mother (John 19:27).” Imagine Our Lord, all bloodied and breathing heavily. Imagine with what difficulty He whispers these words. Now imagine Mary His mother and St. John the faithful Apostle standing beneath the Cross witnessing to this agony. Turn and look at her, will you accept her? Will you accept the last will of the Master? Go over and embrace Mary as your mother. Comfort her in her sorrow. She is the surest guide to Heaven and she will safely guide you to the Beatific Vision.

So on this Mother’s Day, join me in a verse or two of Mother Dearest, Mother Fairest, to honor our Blessed Mother:

V/ Mother Dearest, Mother Fairest,

Help of all who call on thee.

Virgin purest, brightest, rarest

Help us, help, we cry to thee.

R/ Mary, help us, help, we pray.

Mary, help us, help, we pray.

Help us in all care and sorrow:

Mary, help us, help we pray.

V/ Lady, help in pain and sorrow,

Help of all who call on thee.

May the golden light of morrow

Bring them health and joy again.

R/ Mary, help us, help, we pray.

Mary, help us, help, we pray.

Help us in all care and sorrow:

Mary, help us, help we pray.

A blessed Mother’s Day to all mothers – those living and faithful departed. And the same blessings and well-wishes to you, all of the faithful religious sisters, Brides of Christ and our mothers and sisters in the Mystical Body of Christ. Thank you for responding with a yes to God. Happy Mother’s Day to you, the Holy Mother Church. And most of all, Happy Mother’s Day to you, Holy Mary, Jesus Christ’s Mother and my mother.

Thank you for joining me in prayer to honor our Blessed Mother, please remember to continue offering little acts of love to Mary on this her special day.
