How exciting! Hello, everyone; as many of you may know, in just 10 short days we will celebrate the feast of St. Therese of Lisieux. On October 1st., we honor this great, humble, Carmelite saint and Doctor of the Church who gave herself as a spouse to Christ. St. Therese devoted herself to Christ through the “Little Way” and found perfect joy in serving her Spouse in the most menial tasks. May we too follow this “Little Way to Heaven” and arrive at the perfect joy Christ has prepared for us.
There are many reasons why we commemorate the feast of this holy woman every year on October 1st. For her outstanding life of sanctity, we honor Therese as a saint. For the beautiful words we receive from her pen, we honor her as a Doctor of the Church. However great these titles cannot possibly do justice to the most significant reasons for venerating our “Little Flower.” Her humility, meekness, child-like abandonment to God and her “Little Way” to Heaven are St. Therese’s key contributions to the Church. It is for these reasons – above all the others – that we annually show our devotion to God through this beloved child of His. In preparation for the feast day of this beautiful Carmelite Saint, please join me in praying the following novena.
Novena in Honor of St. Therese the Little Flower.
“O St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus, please pick a rose from the heavenly garden, and send it to me with a message of love.”
“I beseech you to obtain for me the favors that I seek (here mention your request).”
“Recommend my request to Mary, Queen of Heaven, so that she may intercede for me, with you, before her Son, Jesus Christ.
“If this favor is granted, I will love you more and more, and be better prepared to spend eternal happiness with you in Heaven.”
“O St. Therese of the Little Flower, pray for me.”
(Novena taken from My Prayer Book Regina Press 168)
Thank you for praying with me and please be so kind as to attend Holy Mass on October 1st., at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill, to thank Christ for all of the blessings He has bestowed on us through the intercession of St. Therese. While you are there, say “hello” to the good Discalced Carmelite Friars there, ask for their blessing and wish them a happy feast day. God Bless You.
